During October, Project Reach Memorial crafted a creative way to collected food for our local food bank, the Food Cupboard. Reach Council discussed various ways to entice students and staff to bring in food, especially items which the Food Cupboard needs desperately. A homeroom competition was created, where the winning homeroom received one week in the gym during the last block of the school day. As an extra incentive, if we as a school collected 1500 food items, our principal would have to run the infamous Physical Fitness Test’s Mile!! For any additional 500 food items, students then voted for a teacher to run the mile with the principal!! During one week, Project Reach students collected 2,623 food items, which means that now not only does our principal have to run the mile, but so do two more teachers!! The run will take place on Friday, November 16th at 1:35 P.M. around the Memorial football field. All are invited to attend!! Project Reach students plan to deliver the food to the Food Cupboard a few days before Thanksgiving.
