You really thought Meerkat Manor was
about JUST Meerkats? Well its
acually looked at as a Family Soap Opera. Everybody compares Meerkat
Manor to the show "The Sopranos" and "The Days of our Lives". Before I
continue talking about this show, Meet the Kats of the Show!
Meet
Flower
Flower Whiskers was the dominant female of the meerkat mob, the
"Whiskers" for 4 years. Flower was born on March 13, 2000. She was only
3 years old when she recieved her throne as dominant female. She grew
up in the "Whiskers" and stayed there her whole life. She accepted
dominance after she was evicted by cousin Risca after her mother, Holly
died from falling predator to a hawk. At the time, her dominant male
was roving male
Youssarian. For a short time, he was the Whiskers dominant male until
is older brother, Zaphod came along and fought him for dominance.
Zaphod won his crown and gave his brother a scar above his eye and
damage to his brain. Flower and Zaphod were the dominant couple of the
"Whiskers" until Flower's death on January 26, 2007 when she was bitten
by a Cape Cobra while trying to defend her newest litter of pups. When
she was the dominant female she had 13 surviving litters. After her
death, her daughter Rocket Dog claimed the dominant throne until her
death in May 2008. Her other daughter, Ella is now dominant female of
the "Whiskers".
Meet
Zaphod
Zaphod was the dominant male of the
"Whiskers" for 4 years until
Flower's passing in January. Zaphod was born on December 9, 1998. He
was born into the meerkat mob, the "Vivian" until age 5 when he decided
to go roving. He soon found his brother, Youssarian in charge of the
"Whiskers" and later claimed dominance from him. Together Flower and
Zaphod had many children and were the dominant pair for 4 years. Zaphod
went roving soon after Flower's passing but returned only weeks after.
After a predator attack sometime while foraging he followed his
daughter Maybelline and created the new meerkat mob, the "Aztecs". He
is currently the dominant male of that mob with his daughter,
Maybelline.
Meet Youssarian
Meet Youssarian
Youssarian was the dominant male of
the "Whiskers" for only 2 months. He was born on December 9, 1998 and
is a littermate of older brother Zaphod. He was always bullied around
by Zaphod to put Youssarian in his place. Youssarian always went roving
to look for females in a rival group called the "Lazuli". During Season
3 of Meerkat Manor.
He
went on an extended roving trip and never returned. He is presumed dead.
Meet Mozart
Mozart is the daughter of Flower and
Zaphod. She was born on November 8, 2002 with her littermates Einstein,
Shakespeare, and Freud. She was always a caring meerkat, but fate never
smiled
apon her. She always got into trouble with Cassanova King Carlos
Lazuli, which ended up in her litters. After being evicted for the last
time by Flower, she caught up with Carlos and they created the meerkat
mob, the "Starsky". She never claimed dominance since her half sister,
Kinkajou killed her pups. When the group got sick with illness Mozart
and Kinkajou were the last survivors. Kinkajou died of starvation
leaving Mozart to defend herself. She later found a roving meerkat
named Wilson, but when his family was in a battle with the "Whiskers",
she left the battlefield and was killed by a Jackal.
Meet Tosca
Tosca is the rebelious daughter of Flower
and Zaphod. She was born on August 18, 2002 with littermates Stato and
Skinner. Ever since she was born she always got into all sorts of
trouble, like mating with roving males whenever they came to visit the
"Whiskers" or anything else. Even if she was a trouble maker, she was
always loving, caring and would do anything to be accepted by her
mother. One day when the "Whiskers" split into two groups, Tosca
claimed dominance from sister Daisy for 1 week. Then her mother, Flower
appeared in the distance and a huge dominance battle between Tosca and
Flower began. Flower won and evicted Tosca from the group forever. It
was heard that Tosca died of a rough winter on her own in 2005.
Meet
Shakespeare
Shakespeare
was the brave couragious son of Flower and Zaphod who was born on
November 8, 2002.
Shakespeare was unlike any other meerkat on "Meerkat Manor". He was
couragious and risked his life many times. During the beginning of
Season 1, Shakespeare suffered a Puff Adder bite and nearly lost his
life. He later healed with the help from Tosca and Mozart. When his
half sister Kinkajou abandoned their brother Mitch, Shakespeare was the
one to save him from starvation. When Flower lead the "Whiskers" on a
days foraging trip, Shakespeare was left to babysit. Suddenly, their
arch rivals, the "Lazuli" invaded the "Whiskers" burrow with
Shakespeare in it with the 3 week old pups. Shakespeare didn't have any
other choice but to risk his own life and fight the dominant male of
the "Lazuli". When the "Whiskers" returned, the pups were safe, but
poor Shakespeare was nowhere to be found. According the the Kalahari
Meerkat Project Website, he was very injured and suffered another Puff
Adder bite, and later died.
Meet
Carlos
Carlos was the Cassanova King of
the Kalahari. He was born into the meerkat mob, the "Lazuli" to
dominant male and female, Big Si and Cazanna. He was the one to
frequently go roving in search for "Whiskers" females. When Tosca was
banned from the "Whiskers" for good by Flower. Carlos was the one to
stick by her side till her death. Mozart was later evicted at the end
of Season 2 of "Meerkat Manor" and Carlos found her. Together they both
created the new meerkat mob, the "Starsky". Carlos claimed the throne
of dominant male, but Mozart's half sister Kinkajou, claimed the
dominant female throne by killing Mozart's new litter of pups. Carlos
suffered a bad scar from a fight with Hannibal of the "Commandoes"
which later became infected and ended his life in 2006.
Meet Rocket Dog
Rocket Dog is the new leader of the
"Whiskers". She was born on December 12, 2003 to Flower and Youssarian.
Rocket Dog
became a dominant when Flower was missing. When Flower returned, she
became a subordinate. When Flower sadly passed away on January 28,
2007, Rocket Dog became the dominate female with her brother, Machu
Pichu. During foraging, Rocket Dog's sister Maybelline split the
"Whiskers" in 2 and formed the meerkat mob, the "Aztecs". Rocket Dog is
struggling to keep her throne since she has no unrelated males to mate
with and she is also having trouble with pregnancies. She currently has
abortions from stress which is effecting group numbers to decrease.
Sadly, on the first week of May 2008, she was hit by a researchers car
and sadly died. Flower's daughter, Ella has taken Rocket dog's place as
Dominant Female.
