If you want to
start skiing, you will have to know how. And if you don't have the
instructor, you can learn yourself.
The most important thing in skiing is how to brake. There are different
kinds of brakes. You can have your skis in a triangle. Triangle slows
you down, but you don't stop completely.
If you want to stop completely, you will have to turn. And you will
have to try to turn sharp. That will work as your brakes.
Now, if you want to go fast, then all you have to do is just put your
skis straight. But if that is not fast enough for you, then you can
bend down a little. So you will be able to cut through air easily.
Also, if you will go too fast, don't get scared. Just get a control of
your body. That is because it is hard to turn on a very high speed if
you don't have a control over your body.
Now, about the equipment. The boots are stiff. And that is for a
reason. When you will fall down really hard, you will not break you
legs.
Also, the skis are not supposed to be too tight on your legs. And when
you fall down, it is ok if your skis fall off your legs. They are
supposed to. The reason why is because if you will fall down hard
enough, you might break your legs. But since the skis will fall off,
you will have a less chance of breaking you legs.
There are also ski poles. Ski poles help you to have balance. So, you
will not fall down as much as you would without them.
Now, if you want to try to go down the mountain backwards, then you
will have to have a different kind of skis. That is because there is
supposed to be a curve at the end of your skis. And if you want to go
backwards, you will have to have a curve at the back of your skis too.
You will not be able to go downhill skiing if you have only
cross-country skis. That is because downhill skis and cross country
skis are totally different.
First of all, the boots. Downhill boots are stiff. And in cross-country
boots you are able to move your legs freely. So, if you will go
downhill skiing on a cross country skis, you will probably break your
legs.
Also, in downhill skis, your foot gets connected to your skis with your
toe and your heel. But in cross-country skis, your foot only gets
connected to your toes.
And you might not want to start jumping on ramps when you just start
skiing. And don’t be afraid too. You can do it.
If you want to start jumping off the ramps, then get a control over
your body. That is because when you are in the air, it is sort of scary
on your first try. So, when you are scared, you lose control over your
body. And then you don’t land very well.
On the winter Olympics, some people jump off the ramps and fly for
around 90 meters.
There is one last thing. If you are bad on your first try, don’t give
up. Practice makes perfect. Skiing is fun and healthy. One of my
friends who is in his twenties, quit smoking just because he likes to
ski a lot. Smoking was sort of in his way when he was skiing. He
couldn’t breath good enough. And now he can. So, he is not smoking
anymore. And the reason for that is skiing.
